One Fish, Two Fish...

red fish, blue fish! Today, Katie Anne and I did another Dr. Seuss project, focused on One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. This is one of Katie Anne's favorite Dr. Seuss books... she loves to read it in the bathtub and make her little hands into fish in the water. We had such a great time outside enjoying the great afternoon weather, and this was such a fun project... it is practically free if you've got basic art supplies and takes very little prep work ahead of time. Here's the step-by-step in case you want to try it!

Start with the needed materials...
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
4 precut labeled fish
2 precut fishbowl shapes
Paint (red and blue, then whatever else you like)
Brushes and cups (I love these foam ones)
Glitter
Plastic wrap
Stapler and staples
Scissors

First, we reread the book. We didn't read the whole thing... it is really long! We only read the first four or five pages that have to do with the fish.

Painting time! She wanted to start with the red fish.
Next, glitter to make our fish some scales.
Now for the blue fish...
She chose green for the one fish...
And yellow for the two fish.
Now, paint the fishbowls. You'll need two identical pieces for this one.
Katie Anne's motto is, "More glitter, more glitter."
Now, it was time for some messy free painting for KA...
while Mommy did the grownup part of this project... cutting and stapling plastic wrap to the fishbowl parts, then stapling the bottom and sides together to make the bowl.

Once everything had dried, Katie Anne checks out her handiwork.
Counting and putting the fish into their bowl.

Checking out her finished project.
All done! Now it is hanging on the refrigerator! The fish come out and go in easily for counting and color naming fun.
