Trash Bags Make Me Happy!

Well, not just any trash bags. Specifically, these trash bags...The first set of bags are the ones packed up with all the clothes that are too big for me, and the ripped open one is the one labeled "Summer Clothes 2003-2004". As of today, I've lost 32 lbs since my weight loss extravaganza began on March 17. And, I'm starting to look ridiculous. My husband told me two weeks ago that I look like I should ride to school in a clown car, my pants have fallen down (luckily, I've caught them) on several occasions at work, and my saggy butt isn't flattering. But, I didn't want to buy a lot of new clothes because I'm not finished losing weight.

So, today - as I was on the hunt for a bread machine, which I thankfully found in a Tupperware container in the basement - I went into the attic and saw trash bags full of 0-l-d clothes of mine that I'd packed up as the weight crept on. I dragged several out and inspected the contents, and I was happy to discover that I had to go all the way back to Summer 2003-2004 to find clothes that fit me now. I brought the bag downstairs, and during Katie Anne's naptime this afternoon, I went through it.

I found lots of old goodies that now fit, such as the dress I wore to our engagement party...

The dress I wore to my UGA graduation (pardon the horrible farmer's tan)...

I also found some things that I thought I'd given away when they got too small, like this shirt from my UGA cohort...
Then, there were some random things that just made me happy, like this pink shirt.
It is a little pink Tommy Hilfiger polo shirt that my mom bought me when it was on sale. When she gave it to me (I'm guessing summer of 2004), I was already too fat to wear it, but I didn't have the heart to tell her. So, it hasn't ever been worn... still had the tags on it! I took the tags off today, and that made me happy.

And, it was good to find a few things in the bag that were too big already!
It just made my day to pull out these clothes that I wore during my senior year of college and first year of teaching and put them back on. Of course, I'm not going to wear a lot of what was in the bag now... some stuff that was trendy then looks weird now, some stuff was too worn to have been saved in the first place, five years in the attic causes some major fading, and some things may fit, but the post-baby body just won't support little empire waist shirts and dresses. So, many things moved right from one bag into the Goodwill one. But, I've got probably 15 shirts, 5 capri pants, and 5 dresses that can tide me over for a while. My goal is that, in another month or two, these clothes will be too big... I want to lose another 20 lbs or so. Don't worry, I found another bag up there for then... there's a size 2 J. Crew blue halter dress calling my name!
